This past Friday saw the completion and delivery of the first complete 100W prototype. Delivery schedules of components and chassis were such that only a week and a half was allotted for build time. It was exciting, and nothing even exploded.
Big thanks go out to Don Johnson for lending his workspace and expertise to this project. When nothing but a wall of hum came out of the preamp the first time around, Don maintained a clear head and positive attitude even when faced with the perturbations of two sleep-deprived Gnome engineers. Don has been building amps for over 40 years and lectures at the Evergreen State College. Seeing as he was instrumental in making this prototype, and he let me borrow more than a few of his time-tested construction techniques, Don and I cosigned the prototype, codenamed “White Stallion.”
Why “White Stallion”? Just have a look at this beauty and tell me it would be as beautiful by any other name:
White chicken head knobs and a smooth but durable 18oz hemp canvas covering make this first prototype the Dylan Sharp of Gun Outfit “White Stallion” signature model. Congrats to Dylan as the first recipient and alpha tester.
As I write this post, the “White Stallion” is galloping down the west coast with Olympia hardcore band H.P.P. whom have taken the responsibility of delivering it to Gun Outfit in Sacramento- and the excitement of playing its first gigs! I personally saw the amp’s first show in Portland and can happily report that it did great!
More about the inner workings of the prototype to follow. As always, forward any questions about the prototype and interest in becoming an alpha tester to max@gnomeamps.com
